Wednesday, June 2
I awoke early to a rustling
and a faint
C R A S H
I crept into the kitchen
groggy eyed and wobble footed
and followed the sound
tiny whispers led me to peer
through the crack in my pantry
there I saw that a small gathering
had began
Juan Valdez had hoped atop some saltines
gesticulating his arms wildly
speaking with the passion of Zapata and Guevara
ranting about something
Aunt Jemima was there leaning on her hip
her back hurt and she said she was tired
Uncle Ben chimed in about how he was tired of
working the WHITE rice circuit
Juan was ranting about how they must liberate
the Land O' Lakes Indian girl from our refrigerator
as I watched Valdez's mule stare back me
I pondered twist-e tying the pantry shut
No, I thought.
Go on.
Go on.
I climbed back into bed
and slept through the revolution.
