so, we have talked about the ethics of photojournalism and whether or not it's morally acceptable to stand there and snap pictures while people die.
but when a photographer does indeed capture moments like this on camera, how should the audience feel about it? is it wrong to see the beauty and appreciate the aesthetic of this work?
today i give you two examples, which i am not showing on this page because they may be triggering for some people. these are photographs of suicides, which i believe are rather well-known, and you may have seen them before.
the first was taken by i. russell sorgi and is known as the genesee hotel suicide. i won't say more than that right now, but i do recommend that you read more about how the photographer captured this moment... whether or not what sorgi did was ethical, was it worth it to capture this photo, and could you call it art?
the second i find much more striking. the link will give you a bit of information about the incident that you may or may not find relevant to viewing the image.
so, what do you think? let's get some stream of conscious answers in here, no judgment of other people's opinions, just purely what you feel when you look at these.[/url] |
